Project Overview
The Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) project is a Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) initiative, with support from the World Bank. The Project is designed to improve access to irrigation and drainage services, enhance dam safety, improve productivity of irrigated agriculture and strengthen institutional arrangements for integrated water resources management in Nigeria. The Project is a follow-up project to the Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) Project and it is designed to scale-up the successes recorded under the TRIMING Project.
Project Development Objective (PDO)
To improve access to and management of irrigation, and drainage services, and to strengthen institutional arrangements for integrated water resources management in Nigeria.
Project Components
This component focuses on strengthening the policy, and institutional frameworks for integrated water resources management at the Federal and State levels, and building the capacity for long-term sustainability of the investments.
This component will support rehabilitation and modernization of irrigation and drainage infrastructure, and dam safety improvements, to enhance water and agricultural productivity.
This component aims to empower farmers through the establishment and strengthening of Water User Associations (WUAs) for the sustainable management of the irrigation schemes.
This component will ensure effective project management and implementation, as well as monitoring and evaluation of project activities and impacts, and compliance with environmental and social safeguards.
